Mbudya is a small marine-reserve island off Dar es Salaam, best enjoyed as a day escape for a beach picnic and time beside the sea. It offers a simple coastal outing rather than a resort holiday.

Choose Mbudya when you have a free day in Dar es Salaam and want a change from city streets. Beach time and a picnic make it easy to keep the day relaxed, with optional snorkelling when conditions and a suitable guide allow.
How to get there
We collect you at the agreed Dar es Salaam meeting point and drive to a confirmed boat launch on the northern coast. Cross by a suitably equipped local boat with life jackets. Departure point, traffic, wind and sea state affect timing. Plan to return to the mainland before dark.
Who it suits
City visitors, couples, friends and families comfortable boarding a small boat. Facilities are simple. Tell us about mobility needs and children’s ages so we can assess boarding, shade and flotation equipment. A mainland pool or beach hotel may be more suitable if a boat trip is not comfortable.
Climate and when to visit
The coast is warm and humid throughout the year. June to October is generally drier; December to February is often hot, with sunshine between showers. March to May is usually wetter, and shorter rains often arrive around November. Trade winds, tides and local weather affect boat trips and swimming in every season.
