How to read these prices: the starting amount is the rate for one person sharing the journey with the largest group size shown. Open “See all group prices” for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6/6+ guests. Kilimanjaro summit climbs, cycling and Meru use a 6+ rate; the Marangu day hike, Lengai and Udzungwa tables quote up to six guests. Mountain days exclude arrival and departure travel days unless stated.

A fair price for a carefully supported journey

What your climbing price supports

A mountain quotation is more than a park ticket and a tent. It pays for the people, preparation and daily decisions behind the experience. We aim to offer a fair, transparent price while protecting the standards that matter on the trail.

People with mountain experience

Professional, appropriately licensed guides lead the climb, with assistant guides, porters and cooks arranged for the route and party size. We work with crew who hold the relevant credentials and association registration for their roles. Ask our team about your crew arrangements before booking.

Time to find your rhythm

Our team helps you select a sensible route and duration, including acclimatisation stages where the programme allows. Extra days cost more because the crew, food, accommodation and park services support you for longer.

Food prepared for the journey

On catered mountain climbs, experienced cooks prepare warm, balanced meals to support active days. Tell us your dietary needs early so the menu, food handling and drinking-water arrangements can be agreed before departure.

Equipment and cleanliness

Route-appropriate group equipment, clean sleeping or dining arrangements, careful food preparation and organised camp routines all take work. Camping routes, Marangu huts, Meru huts and lodge-based forest journeys have different equipment needs.

First aid and emergency planning

Preparation includes a first-aid kit, appropriate emergency equipment and a clear plan for communicating and responding if someone becomes unwell. Your quotation and pre-climb briefing explain the arrangements for your route; rescue and evacuation depend on conditions and the services available.

Responsible crew arrangements

Fair pay, suitable meals, accommodation, loads and working equipment are part of responsible mountain travel. A crew treated with respect can concentrate on doing its work well. Tips are separate from the package price and should be planned transparently.

Polepole to the summit

Slow Down. See More. is especially meaningful on a mountain. Polepole—slowly, slowly—is an invitation to settle into a steady pace, listen to your guide and notice the changing landscape.

Our guides bring experience, humour and encouragement. A song at camp, a cheerful word on a difficult stretch and a patient explanation of the next stage can make the journey feel shared. Along the way, look closer at forest birds, alpine plants and the remarkable flora and fauna of Tanzania’s mountains.

We value the summit, and we value every climber returning well. A thoughtful itinerary supports acclimatisation; walking slowly alone does not remove altitude risk. Weather, health and individual response still matter. We do not promise a summit or advertise an unverified success percentage. When continuing is inappropriate, the guide’s decision to turn back comes first.

For independent preparation advice, read the CDC guidance on high-altitude travel. For responsible crew practices, see KRTO/KPAP porter-treatment guidance. These resources are for information; we do not imply a partnership or certification.

Know exactly what you are paying for

What the quoted price includes

Every booking has an itemised quotation and an Includes & Excludes list. The service package follows the specific itinerary—an Udzungwa forest stay does not need the same crew or equipment as a Kilimanjaro expedition.

Kilimanjaro & Mount Meru climbs

  • Professional guiding and the agreed support team, including assistant guides, porters and a cook where the route requires them.
  • Park, camping or hut charges and applicable government fees for the agreed programme.
  • The mountain camp or shared-hut nights listed in the itinerary; group camping equipment on camping routes.
  • Mountain meals, drinking-water arrangements and the route transfers listed in your quotation.
  • Route briefing, first-aid and agreed emergency-response arrangements.

Lengai & Udzungwa journeys

  • The guided ascent or forest activities listed in the itinerary, when conditions permit.
  • The camp or lodge nights and meals stated for the two- or three-day programme.
  • The entry charges, local guiding and ground transport specifically included in the written quotation.
  • Planning and support before departure, during the journey and for agreed onward arrangements.

Lengai programmes start and finish in Arusha. Udzungwa prices use the agreed Mikumi-area meeting point; longer transfers are quoted separately.

Budget separately for

International flights, visas, personal travel insurance, tips, personal spending and optional services. Town hotels, airport transfers, personal clothing, boots, sleeping-bag hire and specialist cycling equipment are included only when explicitly listed. The Marangu day hike has its own service list. Ask us to compare the full costs for your group.

Insurance: understand the cover

Operator insurance forms part of Tartaruga Safaris’ operating arrangements. Any claim is subject to the policy’s scope, limits, conditions and exclusions; it does not mean that every event or expense is covered. Ask us for the current cover details relevant to your booking.

Each traveller should arrange personal travel insurance that explicitly covers the planned activity and maximum altitude, medical treatment, rescue and evacuation as required. Operator liability insurance and personal travel insurance serve different purposes. Read our Tanzania travel-insurance guide and confirm the requirements for your own journey.

Compare the whole journey

Look beyond the lowest quote

A lower price is not proof of poor service, and an expensive quotation is not a guarantee of quality. The useful question is what each quotation actually funds. Large price differences can reflect fewer days, different accommodation, excluded transfers, equipment standards or crew arrangements.

On a climb, ask about guide credentials, assistant-guide cover, porter welfare, meals, equipment condition, hygiene, acclimatisation stages and emergency procedures. On safari, compare the guide, vehicle condition, park fees, real accommodation names, time in the parks and support arrangements. Savings that depend on inadequate staffing or neglected equipment are not good value.

We explain the services before you book so you can compare like for like. Read our guide to comparing low-priced safari quotations, then let our team prepare a clear proposal for your dates and interests.

Kilimanjaro climbing cost: common questions

What is the price of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro?

Our published Kilimanjaro summit-climb prices start at USD 2,033 per person for the 5-day Marangu route in a group of six or more. The price changes with route, duration and group size: for example, the 8-day Lemosho route starts at USD 2,818 and the 9-day Machame route at USD 3,032 per person for groups of six or more. Open each price card for solo and smaller-group rates. Flights, personal travel insurance, tips and services not listed in the itinerary are additional.

How much does it cost to climb other mountains in Tanzania?

Mount Meru starts at USD 970 per person for three days in a group of six or more. Two-day Ol Doinyo Lengai trips start at USD 600 per person for six guests, and two-day Udzungwa forest trips at USD 290 per person for six guests. These are different experiences with different meeting points, accommodation and inclusions; compare the full itinerary before booking.

Are the prices per person or for the whole group?

All rates on this page are USD per person. Choose your group size to see what each traveller pays. The starting price is the largest-group rate shown, not the solo rate.

Does a longer climb guarantee that I reach the summit?

No. A suitable duration can allow more acclimatisation time and a less compressed schedule, but health, weather and individual response remain important. Your guide can change the plan or recommend descent.

Why do solo travellers pay more per person?

Transport, guiding, food preparation and other shared operating costs are spread across fewer travellers. A larger party shares those fixed costs, which reduces the amount each person pays.

What happens after I choose a route?

Send your dates, group size and hiking experience. We confirm the programme, availability, inclusions and exclusions, insurance requirements and payment schedule in writing. An enquiry does not confirm a booking or take a payment.

Your mountain. Your pace.

Tell us what you want to experience, how much time you have and who is coming. We will help you choose a journey with a clear price and room to enjoy the climb.
