Tanzania Safari FAQs: 30 Questions Answered
These Tanzania safari FAQs cover the decisions that shape a comfortable wildlife holiday: where to go, how to travel, what to pack and how our driver-guides help you enjoy the journey. Your final proposal sets out the services for your own trip.
Choosing your safari
How many safari days do I need?
For a first northern safari, five to seven days allows more flexibility than a very short circuit. Two or three days can still suit a focused visit. We will select a realistic number of parks around your arrival, departure and interests instead of filling the programme with long transfers.
Should I choose northern or southern Tanzania?
The northern circuit suits combinations such as Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Tarangire. Southern trips can focus on Ruaha, Mikumi, Nyerere and Udzungwa. We will compare access, accommodation and activities for your dates; a journey does not need to cover both regions to feel complete.
Can I customise one of your itineraries?
Yes. Our itineraries are starting points. Tell us which places matter most, your accommodation preference and how much time you want for relaxation, photography or cultural visits. We can revise the route and then confirm the resulting price and inclusions.
Is a private safari different from a joining safari?
A private safari is planned for your travelling party. A joining safari combines guests on a specified programme and departure. Ask which arrangement your quotation uses, how many seats are available and which aspects of the schedule can be changed.
Can a solo traveller book with you?
Yes. We can quote a private journey or investigate suitable joining departures. A solo private safari may have a higher per-person cost because vehicle and guide costs are not shared with other travellers.
Is the safari suitable for young children?
We can adapt the pace and check family rooms, meal arrangements and vehicle needs. Tell us each child's age and any nap or mobility requirements. Particular walks, boats, camps and other activities may have separate age limits or restrictions.
Can you plan a honeymoon or babymoon safari?
Yes, we can discuss a gentler itinerary, private accommodation and celebration details. For a babymoon, ask your clinician to review the destinations, travel conditions and activities before you commit; we will use their guidance when discussing practical arrangements.
Wildlife and experiences
Will I definitely see the Big Five?
No wildlife sighting is guaranteed. Our driver-guide will use local knowledge and available time to help you explore suitable habitats. We encourage enjoying birds, landscapes and smaller animals as well as the larger species on your wish list.
When and where can I see the Great Migration?
The herds move through the Serengeti–Mara ecosystem following changing grazing and rainfall. Camp location should match the season, but movements and river crossings cannot be scheduled. Tell us your dates and we will explain which region is sensible to target.
Guidance: Further reading
Can I add a night game drive or walking safari?
Yes, where a suitable operator, location and permission are available. These activities are not automatically permitted in every park or included in a standard game drive. We confirm the exact setting, restrictions and additional cost in your proposal.
Can I include Lake Natron and a Hadzabe visit?
Yes. Both need time in the route, with Lake Natron and Lake Eyasi treated as distinct areas. We can arrange appropriate local hosts and guides, explain the travel involved and avoid promising particular community activities before they are agreed.
Can we book a balloon safari?
We can request an available flight for the relevant safari area. The operator confirms age and participation conditions, weather rules, transfers and what is included. A balloon flight is an optional extra unless your written itinerary expressly includes it.
Vehicles and daily life
What vehicle will we use?
Our safari plans use a 4×4 safari Land Cruiser where specified, with a viewing roof and a window seat arrangement for the agreed passenger number. Your proposal confirms the vehicle and transfer arrangements; airport or town transfers may use a different suitable vehicle.
How many people fit in one vehicle?
We plan the seating around your group, luggage and the vehicle assigned. Our standard safari information describes six guest seats, but we confirm the actual configuration before booking. Larger parties may need more than one vehicle to maintain comfort and window access.
Will we spend all day driving?
A transfer day differs from a wildlife-viewing day. We will identify the longer road sections and discuss breaks or an alternative overnight stop. On a private safari, suitable meal and rest stops can be planned around your party within park rules and the day's route.
What should I pack for a safari?
Bring comfortable layers, a sun hat, suitable shoes, sun protection, a camera or binoculars, chargers and personal medication. Use manageable luggage that fits the vehicle; if a small-aircraft flight is included, follow that airline's specific baggage allowance.
Is Wi-Fi or mobile data available?
Coverage varies and can be absent in remote areas. Where included, our safari arrangement provides one Tanzania SIM/data connection per vehicle, subject to network coverage and the confirmed plan. Do not rely on it for urgent work or uninterrupted video calls.
Can you cater for vegetarian, vegan or allergy needs?
Tell us before we select accommodation and meals. We can request suitable menus, but serious allergies need direct confirmation of kitchen procedures. Share the specific ingredients and cross-contact concerns rather than only a general dietary label.
Comfort and accessibility
What is the difference between budget, midrange, luxury and high-end?
These are our planning categories, not a universal official rating system. They reflect room style, facilities, service and setting. We will name the proposed accommodation and room type so you can judge the actual experience rather than choose only by category.
Are wheelchair-accessible safaris available?
We can design a trip around individually checked access needs. Vehicle entry, bathrooms, pathways and room layouts need verification for your chair and assistance requirements. We will explain any limits before confirming accommodation or activities.
Can you arrange halal safari meals and a Muslim driver-guide?
Yes, subject to confirmed guide and supplier availability. Tell us your food requirements and other preferences at the start so we can check them for each overnight stop and make the agreed arrangements clear in writing.
Booking and costs
What does a starting price mean?
It is a guide price for the stated occupancy, accommodation level, season and inclusions. A smaller party, different travel dates or room arrangement can change the per-person price. Ask us for a dated quotation for your exact party before making a booking.
What is usually included in my safari quotation?
Read the individual itinerary for the confirmed vehicle, guide, accommodation, meals, park entry and transfers. Optional experiences, drinks, tips and personal expenses should be stated separately. We will clarify any item that is not clear before you pay.
What deposit is required?
Our standard safari deposit is 20% of the total, unless another arrangement is agreed in writing. The remaining schedule is confirmed on your invoice. Mountain climbs use a separate deposit arrangement, so do not apply the safari percentage to every product.
Can I add Zanzibar or arrange a different arrival airport?
Yes. Send us your proposed international flights before booking them and we can check how the safari connects with beach accommodation, local flights or onward transfers. This helps avoid losing a wildlife day to an impractical connection.

Entry rules depend on your nationality and route. Check the official Tanzania immigration guidance for your passport before travel; we can help you plan arrival details.
Which vaccinations or medicines should I discuss?
Consult a qualified travel health professional about your itinerary and current requirements. Share practical travel needs with us, but keep medical decisions with your clinician.
Can I combine safari and Zanzibar?
Yes. We can plan a mainland safari followed by beach time, with flight or ferry options and realistic connection times specified in your quotation.
What if my flight is delayed?
Contact our team using the number in your travel documents as soon as possible. We will discuss transfers, accommodation and any supplier changes that your delay requires.
How do I contact the team during my safari?
Your confirmation will give you the agreed local contact details. Your driver-guide is your daily point of contact, and our office can assist with itinerary changes or urgent logistics.
