A mountain journey through Arusha National Park, from forest paths to a high crater-rim summit. Compare the three- and four-day programmes below.

Mount Meru rises above Arusha National Park to about 4,566 metres. Forest, wildlife habitat, heather and a dramatic crater-rim ridge give it a distinct character. The approach normally uses Momella Gate, with shared Miriakamba and Saddle huts. The summit section is steep and exposed, making this a serious trek even though it takes fewer days than Kilimanjaro.
Travel by road from Arusha to Momella Gate. Park-ranger arrangements accompany the mountain team because the lower slopes are wildlife habitat. January–February and June–October are generally popular drier periods, but rain and cold remain possible year-round. Choose Meru if you enjoy sustained hiking and are comfortable on exposed ground. Four days give more recovery time than the compressed three-day descent.

Three trekking days and two hut nights. A demanding summit-and-descent final day for carefully assessed experienced hikers.

Four trekking days and three hut nights, with a gentler descent schedule after the summit attempt.
