Your day-by-day itinerary

Day 1

Arusha to Lake Natron

  • Leave Arusha with your driver for the Rift Valley and Lake Natron. Arrive at your confirmed camp and meet the local mountain guide for a briefing. Keep the afternoon light, eat early and rest before the night ascent. Overnight: Natron camp, with an overnight climb start if conditions permit. Meals: lunch and dinner.
Day 2

Ol Doinyo Lengai summit attempt

  • Drive to the agreed trailhead in the night. Climb steep, loose volcanic slopes with your local guide, using hands on rough sections. Reach the permitted viewpoint only when volcanic activity, weather and fitness allow; summit access may be restricted. Descend carefully as the ground heats up. Return to camp for rest. Meals: breakfast and lunch; dinner if staying another night. Overnight: Natron camp.
Day 3

Lake Natron and return to Arusha

  • After breakfast, take an easy guided shoreline visit if access and temperatures allow. Keep well away from sensitive nesting areas. Return to Arusha by road, stopping for lunch en route. Meals: breakfast and lunch. No overnight stay included tonight.
