Tanzania Safaris and Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing
Explore Tanzania through wildlife safaris, guided mountain treks, local culture and island time. Tartaruga Safaris plans private journeys around your travel dates, pace and interests, with room to slow down and experience more.
Why visit Tanzania?
Tanzania brings several very different journeys into one country. Watch elephants and baobabs in Tarangire, explore the Serengeti’s open plains, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, walk in the foothills of Kilimanjaro and relax beside the Indian Ocean. You can choose a short wildlife trip, a longer safari with quieter days, a mountain climb, or a safari followed by Zanzibar.
Our Arusha-based team helps you compare routes, driving times, accommodation levels and travel seasons. We arrange private safari vehicles and driver-guides, and explain exactly what is included in a written proposal before you book.
When is the best time for a Tanzania safari?
June to October: The main dry season often makes wildlife easier to spot around water and can suit a classic northern circuit safari. Popular parks and lodges can be busy, so plan ahead.
November to December: Short rains can bring green landscapes, birdlife and a quieter feel. Rainfall and road conditions vary by region and year.
January to February: Often another useful window for wildlife and mountain plans; where you travel matters more than a single nationwide rule.
March to May: The long rains make landscapes lush. Some roads may be muddy and some accommodation may operate differently, so we check access and availability for your dates.
Wildlife moves with the seasons; no operator can guarantee a particular sighting or a specific migration crossing. Tell us what you most hope to see, and we will suggest the route that best fits your dates.
Mount Kilimanjaro and other mountains
Mount Kilimanjaro reaches 5,895 metres and offers a remarkable journey through changing vegetation zones. The best route for you depends on available days, fitness, accommodation style and time for acclimatisation. Marangu uses mountain huts, while Machame and Lemosho use designated camps. We can discuss six-day Marangu, six to eight-day Machame, and longer Lemosho options, then confirm the current route plan and support team.
Kilimanjaro is a guided trek. Take altitude seriously, allow enough days and follow your guide’s advice. Mount Meru and other climbs offer further ways to explore Tanzania’s highlands.
