Serengeti National Park Safari
Wildlife, migration journeys and private Tanzania safaris with Tartaruga Safaris. Slow Down. See More.

A safari with time to look closer
A Serengeti safari is an invitation to pause. Our driver-guide helps you follow the story around you: animals moving through the grass, a herd gathering in the distance, or birds calling while you wait quietly. We plan your days around your interests, with time for observation rather than a race between sightings.
Tell us whether this is your first safari, a family holiday, a honeymoon or a photography journey. We will shape your itinerary around your preferred pace and accommodation, explaining how each overnight stop affects the time available for wildlife viewing.
Wildlife and the Great Migration
The Serengeti is known for open grasslands, predators and the migration of wildebeest and other grazing animals. The herds move in response to rainfall and grazing; their location changes, and no river crossing or individual animal sighting can be guaranteed.
Southern Serengeti and the wider Ndutu area are associated with the early-year calving season. The western corridor and northern Serengeti become relevant at other stages of the migration. Our team recommends your safari area for your travel dates, rather than treating the entire ecosystem as one fixed viewing location.
What you can do
- Private game drives: explore with our driver-guide, who will help you understand the wildlife and landscape.
- Photography: allow time to wait for a scene, discuss your priorities with your guide and keep a respectful distance from wildlife.
- Migration-focused journeys: choose overnight locations around the seasonal areas you hope to explore.
- Optional balloon safari: ask us about availability, the operating area, weather conditions and the additional cost before booking.
Activities are confirmed in your individual quotation. A destination description does not mean every optional experience is included in every package.
When to visit and how long to stay
The Serengeti offers wildlife viewing throughout the year, but your priorities matter. A migration-focused trip needs a different plan from a relaxed safari built around resident wildlife, photography or a particular lodge.
For an unhurried journey, consider several nights in the Serengeti instead of a single overnight stop. Two or three nights may fit a shorter northern itinerary; more time gives us room to include another area and reduce the pressure to drive long distances every day. These are itinerary suggestions, not fixed requirements.
Share your dates and total holiday length with us. We will explain the balance between transfer days, game drives and time at camp before you confirm.
Getting there and combining destinations
Your Serengeti journey can form part of a road safari from Arusha through the northern circuit, or include a scheduled local flight when suitable. Road journeys depend on your exact camp, entry point, route and conditions. There is no single useful distance for “Arusha to Serengeti” without identifying the destination within the park.
We can combine the Serengeti with Tarangire, Lake Manyara or Ngorongoro, and arrange a Zanzibar extension. Tell us if you also want Lake Natron or a Hadzabe cultural visit near Lake Eyasi so we can allow enough time for the additional travel.
Choosing your accommodation
Location is as important as the accommodation category. Before selecting a camp or lodge, we consider the area you want to explore, the season, the number of nights and the journeys between stops.
Ask us to compare mid-range, luxury and high-end options, or discuss a budget camping itinerary. For families, tell us the children’s ages and your preferred room arrangement. For guests with mobility needs, we will check the specific property’s paths, rooms, bathrooms and vehicle arrangements before confirming suitability.
