Mount Meru seen from Little Meru — Tartaruga Safaris

3 Days Mount Meru Climbing with Tartaruga Safaris takes you from the lower forest of Arusha National Park to the volcanic landscape above Saddle Hut. Our mountain guide will help you understand the route, set a practical pace and make decisions according to conditions. This is a strenuous trekking programme, not a sightseeing drive.

Your Mount Meru climbing journey

The route uses shared mountain huts and an early summit attempt. The three-day schedule combines the summit with a long descent to the gate. It is suited only to trekkers whose experience and fitness have been carefully reviewed.

Start and finish in Arusha

Allow 3 trekking days and 2 mountain-hut nights. Town accommodation before and after the trek and airport transfers can be added separately. Keep time for an equipment check before the first walking day and avoid a tight onward flight on the final day.

Prepare with our mountain team

Tell us about your previous hiking, altitude experience, dietary requirements and any medical or mobility considerations. Bring warm layers and rain protection even in the drier months. Our guide will explain each day and assess the summit attempt; reaching the top is never guaranteed.

A trek is most rewarding when you give it your full attention. Keep your daypack organised, walk with the group and follow the ranger’s instructions around wildlife. Leave room in your schedule to rest after the climb. Slow Down. See More.
