Your First Tanzania Safari: A Practical Guide

Zebras in Tanzania — Tartaruga Safaris

You do not need to know every park before enquiring. Start with what you would enjoy and how you want to travel.

Start with your interests

Tell us whether wildlife, landscapes, photography, culture or beach time matters most. Share your available days and the pace you prefer. We can then suggest a route rather than ask you to choose from a long list of unfamiliar places.

Understand a safari day

A game drive involves time looking, waiting and moving between habitats. Your guide follows park rules and adjusts the route to conditions. Animals are free-ranging, so sightings and migration crossings cannot be guaranteed. Allow quiet time to watch behaviour instead of expecting a checklist.

Leave room for transfers

Travel days are part of the itinerary. Hotel location, road conditions and entry procedures all affect the time available for wildlife viewing. Tell us if long periods in a vehicle are uncomfortable so we can discuss fewer stops or a different route.

Select accommodation thoughtfully

Decide whether you prefer camping, lodges or furnished tented camps. Ask about the specific room, bathroom, family layout and meals. Location can be especially important: a room that looks attractive online may be far from the area you want to explore.

Pack for comfort

Bring comfortable clothing, a light warm layer, sun protection, closed shoes and your usual essentials. Keep important travel documents and necessary medication accessible. Check the actual baggage rules if your itinerary includes a small aircraft; there is no universal allowance for every flight.

Work with your driver-guide

Explain what interests you and ask questions. Our guide can help you notice tracks, birds and smaller details as well as larger animals. Stay in designated areas, follow safety instructions and ask before photographing people.

Before you confirm

Read the route, inclusions and payment terms. Check insurance for your activities and seek current professional travel-health advice. Share food, room and mobility needs before booking so arrangements can be checked rather than assumed.
